A Cover Letter for Opera's Consideration

Dear Opera,

My name's Roman Lojko and I'm a front end web developer. I build and edit websites for Genuine Interactive, a 30-person interactive agency in Boston. I also design websites and do SEO for fun. I write all my code by hand, and my goal with any website is to make make it work cross browser as simply and efficiently as possible. I've already mastered HTML and CSS and I get more proficient with PHP every day. I also plan to tackle javascript over the next year or so.

I started working for Genuine last summer. I enjoy my job and its environment, but I just don't see myself working there for more than a year or two longer. Mainly I want to get out of Boston after living here for five years, where I feel walls starting to build up around me.

Ever since I stumbled upon that web developer job listing on Opera.com I often find myself daydreaming about your little setup in Goteburg. Lately my desire to experience something other than what I've been experiencing my whole life (living in America's Northeast) has become a powerful urge, and, though it might sound a little silly, that job listing really has inspired me to finally take some steps towards fulfilling it.

For a couple years now I've been enamored with Scandinavians - particulary Swedes and Norwegians for their inexplicable propensity to create wonderful music. I've befriended two bands, one Swedish and one Norwegian, when each stopped in Boston on tour. All the musicians were incredibly friendly and congenial, and they all offered me places to sleep if I ever decided to take a trip to Scandinavia.

And so I've decided. I'm traveling to Sweden and Norway in August because I don't want to waste any of these opportunities. And as a preliminary step I made this website to show you that I'm very interested in a position at Opera, regardless of the fact that I've never been to Sweden or Norway. Right now all I have is a feeling that's whispering in my ear, telling me that living in Sweden may likely be part of my future, and I want to explore that feeling.

Thanks for the inspiration. We'll see where we go from here.
